Customer case: CCEP
Guide Gloves helps Coca Cola European Partners achieve their zero vision for workplace accidents.
Every year, millions of glass bottles are handled at Coca-Cola European Partners’ plant in Jordbro. Broken glass and sharp corrugated cardboard edges in connection with inbound and outbound shipments can easily result in cuts, and this is currently the main risk area for production staff. Now CCEP has turned to Guide Gloves for help in achieving its zero vision for workplace accidents at the plant. The decisive success factor? Getting employees to keep their work gloves on – for the whole working day.
Coca-Cola European Partners Sweden has about 700 employees in Jordbro, south of Stockholm. This is where all of the Coca-Cola Company’s beverages are produced and distributed in Sweden, and the handling of both glass bottles and sharp cardboard edges places high demands on employees to use the right work gloves for every job.
Sirpa Leinonen is one of many health and safety representatives at CCEP, with responsibility for purchasing work clothes and personal protective equipment for production staff in Jordbro.
“In addition to cuts, production personnel staff risk exposure to moisture, burns and frostbite. So the key to a safe working day is for them to keep their work gloves on, even if they just need to use a touchscreen for a moment or make a quick note of something. Here, of course, the crucial factor is having the right personal protection, while maintaining comfort and function,” says Sirpa Leinonen.
A focus on the employee experience
In order to achieve the zero vision for workplace accidents at the plant, CCEP initiated a partnership with Guide Gloves in 2018. Since then, Guide Gloves has been visiting the plant on an ongoing basis to analyse the work procedures and needs of production staff. After a number of tests and an evaluation of the employee experience, the right work gloves could be selected.
“The personal engagement of Guide Gloves has been crucial, they’ve maintained a close dialogue with employees in order to find the best solution based on their specific situation. Now they keep their work gloves on for the whole working day,” says Sirpa Leinonen.
